Did you know that Steinway Tower, considered the thinnest skyscraper in the world, also known as 111 West 57th Street, is a residential skyscraper in New York? Located on ‘Billionaire’s Row’ near Central Park, it is 435 meters tall and only 18 meters wide, giving it a record-breaking slenderness ratio.
The building, designed by SHoP Architects and completed in 2021, combines modern elements with Art Deco details, reflecting the aesthetic of the historic Steinway Hall, which occupies the base of the skyscraper. It has 84 floors and houses luxury apartments with spectacular views of the city and the park.
Steinway Tower has become a symbol of modern supertall architecture (extremely tall skyscrapers) and is an example of how engineering has evolved to allow construction in tight urban spaces.
