New York City is advancing a rezoning plan for a 21-block area along Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn to build 4,600 homes, with 1,436 to 1,646 affordable units. The City Planning Commission initiated the land use review process for this long-delayed proposal, based on the community-led M-Crown plan from 2013. Local Council members Crystal Hudson and Chi Ossé support the project, which aims to address the area’s housing shortage. The plan includes city-owned sites and investments in affordable housing and community amenities. The City Council will ultimately decide the rezoning’s fate.
