John Catsimatidis’ Red Apple Real Estate secured $57 million from J.P. Morgan for a 12-story mixed-use project at 280 Eighth Avenue in Chelsea. The 100,000 square-foot building will feature 104 residential units, community space, and ground-floor retail. Catsimatidis, who has owned the property for 40 years, is redeveloping it with SLCE Architects. Amenities will include a fitness center, media room, and rooftop garden, with leasing expected to start next year. Known for his Gristedes supermarket chain, Catsimatidis also has notable developments in Downtown Brooklyn and Coney Island. He considered running for NYC mayor in 2021 but did not.
