44-36 Vernon Boulevard

The site of the former Amazon HQ2 in Long Island City, abandoned in 2019, could soon see new development. Mayor Eric Adams’ administration plans to release a request for expressions of interest (REFI) this spring, seeking ideas for commercial, light industrial, and community uses for the 672,000-square-foot warehouse at 44-36 Vernon Boulevard. The property is currently used by the Department of Education. The city is also exploring potential uses for two nearby parking lots controlled by different city agencies. Local advocates have suggested transforming the site into a business and artist incubator. Responses to the REFI are due by summer, and a more formal request may follow.
