Developer Bruce Eichner is making a second attempt to rezone a site near the Brooklyn Botanic Garden for a 14-story, mixed-use building with 475 apartments and 100,000 square feet of commercial space at 962 Franklin Avenue. The proposal, downscaled from his 2021 plan for two 39-story towers, aims to minimize shadows on the Garden. The new plan has entered the city’s seven-month land-use review process. Despite lingering community concerns and opposition from City Council member Crystal Hudson, Eichner hopes to gain approval by adjusting the building design to allow more sunlight to reach the Garden.
