Republic Airport – Farmingdale, Long Island

Republic Airport Farmingdale

Governor Kathy Hochul has unveiled plans to repurpose 13 acres of unused land near Republic Airport in Farmingdale, Long Island, for private housing development. This initiative, part of the Redevelopment of Underutilized Sites for Housing program (RUSH), aims to address the housing shortage in New York. The site, owned by the Department of Transportation, has been vacant since the 1990s. Proposals for the Conklin Street site are due by August 7, with 20% of the housing set aside for lower-income households. Hochul views leveraging state-owned land as a significant opportunity to increase housing supply and address the state’s housing crisis.
